Assuming the SEC lost Mizzou to the Big Ten

then I would not assume that the SEC will look to find a replacement for Mizzou. I say that because the protected cross-division rivalries may shape the next move the SEC makes. The current rivalries look like this:

Auburn-Georgia (aka Deep South's Oldest Rivalry and will remain an annual conference game)
Alabama-Tennessee (aka The Third Saturday in October and will remain an annual conference game)
Ole Miss-Vandy (a kinda forced rivalry that came about when the SEC expanded to 12 members)
Miss State-Kentucky ( (a kinda forced rivalry that came about when the SEC expanded to 12 members)
LSU-UF (a kinda forced rivalry that came about when the SEC expanded to 12 members)
Arkansas-Mizzou (both schools wanted to change their partners to this pairing because of the shared border between the states)
TAMU-S. Carolina (even though it was a byproduct of the creation of the Ark-Mizzou pairing, both schools embraced the change)

From the SEC's perspective, the first 2 pairings above have a "must be protected" or "sacred" status. So the SEC might decide to use this opportunity to expand to 16 members so it can move the Alabama schools to the East Division and eliminate the need for a having 1 protected cross-division game. If the SEC plans to continue an 8 game conference schedule, then it would have only 1 open slot that would be needed to rotated among the teams in the other divisions instead of reserving it for the protected cross-division rival. Also, it may even prompt the SEC to switch to a 9 game conference schedule so teams can have 2 rotating cross-division games.
